Clemson fans show courage despite the storm

CLEMSON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Clemson football players and coaches said they were grateful for the Tigers fans who still went to the win over Stanford even though many of them were without power after Hurricane Helene.

“It was something that was important to me and the coach and a lot of people. I don’t think we really expected the storm to hit us as badly as it did,” Clemson Jr. quarterback Cade Klubnik said. “There are people on our team who have lost their homes and a lot of Clemson fans who have had a lot of trouble over the last few days. In the midst of all the chaos, we just wanted to put a smile on people’s faces today and I hope we succeeded.”

The smiling fans said the game allowed them to distract from the destruction caused by the storm.

“Everyone here loves Clemson and we are here to celebrate. Courting!” said Clemson fan from Myrtle Beach, Samantha Steed. “Some people have it really bad and trees are going through their house and that’s sad, but it’s also something to look forward to.”

Other fans said nothing would stop them from witnessing Clemson’s third straight win.

“I wanted to be here even though it was pouring rain,” Clemson freshman Carson Rowe said. “We don’t even have electricity in the house, so we figured we might as well come here and hang out instead of hanging out in a dark house. We get to spend time with the people we love and watch the game we love.”

The students felt that their team needed their support, especially given the circumstances.

“We thought it was important for the players to see a lot of painted fans,” Clemson student Collin Craig said. “Rain or shine, day or dark, underdog or favorite, I am here. I support the Tigers and we will be loud.”

Even opposing fans enjoyed their time at the Tigers tailgate.

“We’re big Stanford fans, we’re here for the ride. It’s going to be a really fun game,” Josh Adamson said. “There is no electricity in our house, but we are here and having a great time. This is fantastic. This is a great experience and we are excited to be part of the ACC.”

The fans were impressed with Clemson’s 40-14 win over Stanford and the players were impressed with the fans’ spirit.

“Our fans are great. They show up at every game. It’s just unbelievable,” said Clemson sophomore wide receiver Cole Turner. “Despite everything that was going on, it was definitely pretty special that everyone was out there and being so loud.”

Clemson, now on a three-game winning streak, will face former Tigers quarterback DJ Uiagalelei next Saturday at Florida State.
