But then the Spartans took advantage of a Will Howard interception in the second quarter to cut the Buckeyes’ lead to a field goal.

It might be a surprise not to see Air Noland’s name there, but that almost certainly doesn’t reflect Noland’s performance in practice. This week he had his black stripe removed, a tradition that marks a player’s official acceptance to the Buckeyes. However, Noland is not listed on the injury report.

So this is most likely a chance to reward Ray, who is in his third year with the program, an invited walk-on in the spring of 2022 and a two-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and two-time Academic All-Big Ten Conference honoree.

But lately the Buckeyes have dominated Sparty. and that’s likely to continue Saturday night, but the Buckeyes have too many weapons to keep them under control.

Ohio State 38, Michigan State 13: Joey Kaufman of The Columbus Dispatch says: “The Buckeyes are one of only five teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision averaging at least 50 points, but the scoring should slow a bit against the Spartans, who are much better defensively. ” After being one of the worst units in the Big Ten last season, Michigan State had a limited number of plays from scrimmage longer than 40 yards and put pressure on quarterbacks with 15 sacks in four games. Things are a little contended, but it’s still too early in Jonathan Smith’s rebuild for Ohio State to be a real threat.

The Spartans won’t pose a formidable challenge on either side of the ball, but presumably their Big Ten talent is an improvement over what OSU experienced at Akron, Western Michigan and Marshall. “If nothing else, Sparty will make the tailback tandem of Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson work for their yards. Quarterback Will Howard beats Power Four competition.”
