Arkansas finishes the Southwest Classic series as only they could

The series between Arkansas and Texas A&M at AT&T Stadium ended Saturday and the conclusion of the Southwest Classic in Arlington, Texas had a very fitting conclusion.

Before Saturday’s game, Texas A&M had won 11 of the 12 games in the series since permanently moving to Arlington in 2013. Arkansas had suffered many heartbreaking defeats over that 12-year span, and the Razorbacks ended up with a tear in the series in fitting fashion.

The game was a defensive slugfest and was tied 14-14 through three quarters before an Arkansas field goal just over a minute into the fourth quarter gave the team a 17-14 lead. The Texas A&M offense then woke up from its slumber and went for the go-ahead touchdown nine minutes before the end of regulation time.

After the teams traded punts, QB Taylen Green and the Arkansas offense had two minutes and 50 seconds to write their names in the history books.

However, in typical Arkansas fashion, Green fumbled the ball on their final possession, giving the No. 24 Aggies a 21-17 win and continuing HC Sam Pittman’s abysmal record in one-point games.
