Surface Laptop Studio and Studio 2 receive new firmware with battery protection improvements

The September 2024 firmware update is now available for the original and second Surface Laptop Studio. This month’s update focuses on improving charging-related things like the battery limit feature not working properly, fixes for battery protection mode, smart charging, and more.

Here is the changelog for the original Surface Laptop Studio:

The following update is available for Surface Laptop Studio devices running Windows 10 September 2022 Update, version 22H2 or later.

• Fixes the issue that caused the Battery Limit setting to not work as expected.

• Improves battery protection mode function by activating protection only when needed, helping to extend battery life and maintain its health.

• Fixes an issue that caused Smart Charging to take longer to activate than expected.

The changelog for the Surface Laptop Studio 2 is the same, except for one additional fix that improves the response time when waking the computer from sleep:

• Improves the device wake-up experience with faster response time.

You can download the latest Surface firmware update from Windows Update in the Settings app. Alternatively, visit the official Surface support website to download manual installation packages for Surface Laptop Studio here and Surface Laptop Studio 2 here. Surface firmware updates cannot be uninstalled. Therefore, back up important data before downloading and installing the latest version.

The original Surface Laptop Studio will be supported until October 5, 2027. Its successor, the Surface Laptop Studio 2, will reach the end of its support cycle on October 3, 2029.
