Locke’s first start will come Saturday in UW’s Big Ten opener at No. 13 USC. The Trojans lost 27-24 to No. 12 Michigan last week in Ann Arbor.

Mark Stewart: The Badgers were embarrassed by Alabama. This boost to player pride and an extra week of preparation should lead to a spirited performance against the Trojans. But I’m still worried about UW’s ability to score. The unit has not demonstrated the ability to perform at a high level to win on the road. Add in the wrinkle of a new quarterback making his first start of the season, and the Badgers will have their hands full. USC 31, Wisconsin 10.

JR Radcliffe: The timing of the farewell couldn’t have been more perfect for the Badgers, as they handed the keys on offense to backup quarterback Braedyn Locke while losing starter Tyler Van Dyke for the season. However, USC’s defense looked solid against Michigan, so there won’t be an opportunity for Locke and Co. to get into Big Ten play. The Trojans are better than the Wisconsin Badgers in every way. Call it optimistic intuition, but I don’t think we’re headed for a collapse. I think Wisconsin will make some much-needed plays and linger in this game before ultimately being eliminated. USC 26, Wisconsin 18.
