The best design-focused cocktail shakers

Whatever your poison, no bar is complete without the perfect cocktail shaker.

Although it may seem like a modern device, shakers have been around for centuries. To briefly review: There are primitive versions of the cocktail shaker dating back to the 16th century. Something similar was discovered in South America (presumably for mixing traditional medicinal drinks). However, the style we are so familiar with today was not born until the mid-19th century. To froth and mix cocktails, bartenders used to quickly pour their mixtures between two glasses. From here, rumor has it that a bartender named George Foster invented the modern shaker with a built-in strainer. However, some historians cite the proliferation of similar models in bars in the 1950s as evidence that he could not have been the first to invent the concept. Whoever invented them and however they came about, we can probably all agree that we have a lot to be thankful for.
