SHREVEPORT, LA – The Louisiana Pardon Board heard the plea of a convicted murderer from the Shreveport-Bossier area who wanted to be released on parole.

Larry Thompson Sr., 81, was described by Bossier District Attorney Schuyler Marvin as one of the “worst of the worst.” He is serving his 80-year sentence at the David Wade Correctional Center.

Assistant District Attorney Richard Ray represented Bossier Parish during the parole hearing this week. Five parole board members heard Thompson’s plea, urging the board to release him.

Thompson is described as a four-time felon. He is serving an 80-year sentence for attempted first-degree murder of a police officer and aggravated burglary for an incident that occurred in Shreveport in 2004.

He is also serving a prison sentence for manslaughter in Caddo Parish.

Thompson told the panel he didn’t know why he did what he did. He has served 21 years of his sentence.

The report presented by the panel showed that Thompson had very limited programs while incarcerated. Thompson told the panel he was not a drug addict and did not need help with it. He also says he doesn’t have an anger problem and doesn’t need anger management.

The warden at David Wade Correctional Center told the panel that Thompson received six citations. She says Thompson actually plans to live with a brother in Shreveport when he is released.

When did Thompson Life of Crime begin?

It is unclear how Thompson began breaking the law, but his serious legal problems began in the late ’70s and early ’80s. He was a prime suspect in a high-profile New Jersey murder case in 1984. However, he was acquitted in that case.

Assistant District Attorney Richard Ray of Bossier Parish described the Thompson crime spree by telling the panel in 2003 that there had been an armored car heist in which several people led by Thompson robbed an armored car of more than $700,000 in Shreveport. The suspects were armed with semi-automatic weapons. They wore ski masks. A Shreveport police officer pursued the car from Shreveport to Bossier City. Thompson instructed one of the younger members of the group to shoot the “m-f’er.” One of his officer Mark Sharbono’s shots in his arm.

Ray says Thompson is “an extreme danger to those who testified against him and a danger to the public.” Ray says Thompson is a known assassin. Given his history, we urge this board to deny his parole.
