A&M defeats No. 7 Texas in five sets in historic victory

AUSTIN, Texas (KBTX) – Texas A&M defeated No. 7 Texas in five sets (25-27, 25-14, 23-25, 25-21, 18-16) at Gregory Gym on Wednesday, breaking multiple streaks.

This is the Aggies’ first win in Austin since the 2001 season and first overall since 2010 (the Longhorns had won the previous 11 games).

Texas A&M (14-4, 5-3) handed Texas (12-4, 7-1) its first SEC loss of the season. It is also the Longhorns’ first home loss since 2014.

Logan Lednicky led the Aggies with 23 kills. Emily Hellmuth had 15 kills and Ifenna Cos-Okpalla added 10 kills.

This is Texas A&M’s first win in the repeat Lone Star Showdown in all sports this year. Texas leads 1.5 to 0.5 (1 point for football, half a point for each volleyball game).

The Aggies don’t play until November 1st when they host Alabama at Reed Arena.
