The first-ever UNCW Women’s Basketball Skills and Wellness Clinic will benefit both children and parents

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The UNCW women’s basketball team hosted its first-ever skills and wellness clinic at Trask Coliseum.

The university collective OneSeahawk hosted the event to raise money for the team. OneSeahawk is a NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) collective dedicated to supporting UNCW student-athletes.

Its mission is to create innovative opportunities for Seahawk athletes to succeed both on and off the field, and to help them build and maximize their personal brands. The clinic allowed children in grades 8 and under to train with the team, receive autographs and have photo opportunities.

After the event ended, students enjoyed free food and were encouraged to stay and watch the teams practice. Events were also planned for parents.

Women’s basketball team head coach Nicole Woods felt it was important for parents to get something out of this event, not just the kids.

“While the children are in the clinic, we also wanted to provide value to the parents,” Woods said.

Five vendors were in attendance, including the Stretch Lab, which gave parents free stretching exercises.

Taylor Henderson, shooting guard for the women’s basketball team, enjoyed this opportunity to connect with the community and teach basketball to children.

“I have a shooting station and it was very competitive, the kids were really engaged and listening. This is probably the most exciting thing I’ve done at this clinic,” Henderson said.

Both Woods and Henderson encourage everyone to get out there and “Pack Trask” this season. The first home game will take place on November 10th.
