Wolf Creek Ski Area is the first in North America to open for the ski season

Wolf Creek Ski Area became the first ski resort in North America to open Tuesday for the 2024-2025 season.

The day also kicked off the ski area’s 85th season, which will be celebrated throughout the season.

The ski area opened following a storm system that delivered 26 inches of snow and left a mean snow depth of 16 inches.

OnTheSnow.com announced Tuesday that Wolf Creek is the first ski resort to open in North America.

On Wednesday, Wolf Creek reported a mean depth of 17 inches.

“Current snow depth at Wolf Creek is 17 inches at center,” the ski area’s website states. “Conditions are spring-like and vary off-piste with early season conditions and unmarked obstacles. There will be limited grooming work throughout the mountain. Snowfall is 26 inches since the start of the year. … As usual, with more snow and wintry conditions, more terrain and lifts will open.”

According to the ski area, as of October 22, the Bonanza, Treasure and Nova lifts will operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., providing access to approximately 40 percent of the mountain. The magic carpet is open for the Wolf Pup and Wolf Rider programs.
