Rapid City homeowners can save money through a city-backed program

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – Next week, many Rapid City homeowners will receive letters about a city-sponsored program that could save them thousands of dollars on unexpected home repairs.

The letters are sent by Service Line Warranties of America and provide information about affordable repair coverage for interior and sewer systems, exterior sewer lines and exterior water service lines.

Given all the scams, city officials emphasize that the letters are legitimate and say the plan provides protection against unexpected repair costs since they are not typically covered by home insurance or the city.

The city partnered with Service Line Warranties of America in 2018.

Since then, more than 1,000 Rapid City homeowners have signed up, saving nearly $900,000 on repairs.

“The last thing you want to do is come home and find that one of those pipes is leaking and that you are now responsible for thousands of dollars in repairs. With a product like this, you can easily ensure that you have support and coverage in an event like this and dispatch someone to take care of it immediately,” said Shannon Truax, Rapid City public works manager.
