Baldwin Park man in custody for fatal shooting in Whittier – Whittier Daily News

A Baldwin Park man was arrested Tuesday, Oct. 22, on suspicion of fatally shooting another man near a Whittier motel earlier in the day.

Whittier police believe the shooting was gang-related, police spokeswoman Emily Armstrong said.

However, the motive for the killing is still unclear to investigators.

Around 6:45 a.m., police received a call from a man in the 11400 block of Whittier Boulevard. He later died in a hospital.

The medical examiner’s office had not yet publicly identified the victim.

A dark sedan seen leaving the area led to the suspect, Armstrong said. Martin Trevizo, 31, was arrested in Hawaiian Gardens nearly five hours after the shooting, she said, adding that officers also found his car. They didn’t find a gun.

Trevizo has been charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon, she said.

As of Wednesday, he was being held in Whittier Prison in lieu of $2 million bail.
