NORTH TEXAS – Hello! An initial warning was issued today for a high of 90 degrees, close to the record high of 91 degrees set in 1939. The heatwave will continue through the rest of the working week, with forecast highs close to previous records. The first warnings were therefore issued for Thursday and Friday.

The temperatures were pleasantly warm this October, it didn’t feel like fall at all! Only four days recorded temperatures that were at or below the average for the previous 23 days.

In addition to the persistent heat, the dryness also persists. September 25th was the last day of measurable precipitation across DFW, with no precipitation in sight over the weekend. The dry fuels increase the risk of wildfires Thursday with wind gusts of 20 to 25 miles per hour across North Texas.

So far, the month of October has the potential to be one of the driest and hottest Octobers on record. However, the forecasts for the month vary somewhat. The next big weather maker is expected to bring an increase in rainfall and cooler temperatures, which could mean we don’t get the driest and hottest titles in October.
