On Oct. 22, presided over by Baltimore City District Judge Robert K. Taylor Jr., a prosecutor called two police witnesses who analyzed evidence related to a murder scene.

Daaon Spears, 18, is charged with 31 counts, including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and second-degree assault, as well as various firearms charges, in connection with a January 4 murder, 2023, shooting in near the Edmondson Village Mall where 16-year-old Deanta Dorsey was killed.

Baltimore Police Department (BPD) witnesses obtained surveillance footage of a suspect walking through a school near the crime scene and running away.

The prosecutor described images of evidence collected outside a Popeyes restaurant and a nearby alley, including images of headphones, a backpack, DNA swabs, a bloody shirt and a magazine with some bullets in it.

Defense attorney Brandon Taylor questioned the witness about whether the bullets would fit in the magazine.

“It’s a different brand of bullet, not a different type of bullet,” the witness replied.

The footage, which the BPD received from school police at Wildwood Elementary, shows a hooded person in all black walking and running through the building, while another video shows two hooded people running away into an alley.

The prosecutor also showed photos purportedly showing the suspects being dropped off near the school by a Lyft driver.
