Joan Vassos is a 61-year-old school administrator from Maryland. She appeared on the first season of The Golden Bachelor but withdrew to go home and take care of family matters. Joan earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Maryland and was married to her husband, John, for 21 years until his tragic death from pancreatic cancer. Now, as the first Golden Bachelorette in the series, she is looking for a second chance at love.

“The Golden Bachelorette” is a spin-off of the reality television competition show “The Golden Bachelor” and “The Bachelor,” in which a man dates a house full of women in hopes of finding his soulmate. At the end of the show he has to choose a woman and propose to her. However, The Golden Bachelorette turns the tables on the senior version of the show, in which a woman in her 60s will date 24 men in search of love. Every week she gives out roses to the men she wants to keep with her until there is only one left to propose to her.
