ILLINOIS (KFVS) – Some Illinois residents may be receiving money without knowing it.

State Treasurer Michael Frerichs says 140,000 unclaimed property checks in Illinois are in the mail.

The checks, totaling about $13.2 million, are the latest round of payments under the Enhanced Money Match program, which allows the treasurer’s office to automatically return missing money to people without filing a lawsuit must be.

In recent weeks, the treasurer’s office has sent letters to unclaimed property owners detailing the amount and source of money on the way.

Since 2018, the program has paid out more than $102 million to nearly 422,000 people in Illinois. The nearly 140,000 letters sent in this round make it the largest Money Match ever conducted in the country.
