Russell Crowe’s $44 million action thriller becomes a global hit four years after its release

Russell Crowe remains one of the most recognizable names and faces in Hollywood. Crowe remains best known for his groundbreaking performances in the late ’90s and early 2000s, including as a rule-breaking detective LA Confidential (1997), a major tobacco whistleblower in The insider (1999), a mathematical genius in A beautiful spirit (2001) and a fair captain in Master and Commander: The Other Side of the World (2003). It’s his role as Maximus in gladiatorHowever, this remains arguably his most iconic role.

In the early 2000s, Crowe often played more traditionally heroic characters and this was to largely continue in the following years, although there were also a few outliers. He played a violent yet charming criminal 3:10 p.m. to Yuma (2007) and Henry Jekyll in The mummy (2017). Jekyll had been one of Crowe’s most outwardly villainous roles at the time, and a few years later she eventually set the stage for an even darker and more sinister portrayal.

Director: Derrick Borte, Confused In the main role, Crowe only plays Man, an unstable commuter who targets Rachel (Caren Pistorius) after a tantrum in traffic. The film, released in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, was not a huge box office success, grossing just $44 million against an estimated budget of $33 million.

This is now shown by new data from Netflix Confused is the eighth most popular film worldwide on the streamer during the week of October 14th to 20th. The thriller racked up an impressive 7.9 million hours watched with a total of 5.2 million views. Confused manages to beat titles like Jurassic world domination (2022) and Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), but falls behind others The predator (2018), Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024) and Sing (2016), with Lonely planet (2024) at the top. How Crowe’s film was received by critics and audiences

ConfusedReviews may not have been particularly positive, with the film currently holding a weak 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it’s still an interesting change for Crowe. It’s arguably his most dastardly character yet, and As a random stranger who targets an innocent woman due to an unfortunate road accident, he is truly frightening. One idea the film plays with is that such an encounter could really happen to anyone, and that’s one of the reasons it’s so frightening.

The film fared slightly better with audiences, earning a 77% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and this pulpy thriller is definitely fun. The premise is straightforward and there are some great moments of suspense throughout Crowe’s wild role is undoubtedly one of the reasons the film is so successful on streaming. ConfusedThe ending also escalates into some extreme violence. Although it’s unlikely to be mentioned as one of the best films ever Crowe‘s filmography, Confused still shows an interesting new side of the actor and makes for an entertaining popcorn thriller.
