Live Updates: Latest election news ahead of Harris’ town hall on CNN

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign is trying to convince Americans that a second Donald Trump presidency will further derail the country, embracing Harris as an acceptable agent of change in the final stretch to Election Day, a dozen top advisers and more see Outside allies told CNN.

As Harris campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon told top donors in Philadelphia at a retreat last week, they may not believe the race could still be tied, but in the battleground states where the Presidency is won, so be it.

Part of the outreach will include reviving Biden-like themes surrounding Trump’s inability to hold office, trying to make the case for a stable commander in chief while persuading wavering voters to make the move to elect the first Black female president.

But instead of moralizing and abstract messages, Harris and her ads focus on how much worse they believe a second Trump presidency would be. And in ways Biden never could, this would lead to Trump being labeled even more unfit for the presidency, particularly because of their claim that he is in mental and physical decline.

Reproductive rights will remain a focus, but outreach will also continue to push Harris’ biography and economic plans as she believes her campaign has real room to grow as non-college-educated white women are repelled by what Trump aides believe that she can win if they feel she is middle class rather than radical left.

The team also expects to expand its efforts among seniors and maximize enthusiasm for Harris among Black women, while also pushing to strengthen support among Black men and Latinos.
