Chhota Rajan released on bail: Bombay High Court grants bail to gangster in 2001 Jaya Shetty murder case, suspends life sentence

The Bombay High Court has granted bail to gangster Chhota Rajan, who was convicted of murdering hotelier Jaya Shetty in 2001. On May 30, 2024, a special MCOCA court sentenced Rajan to life imprisonment, making it his second life sentence as he is also serving a sentence for the murder of journalist Jyotirmoy Dey in 2011. A division bench comprising Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Prithviraj Chavan suspended his life sentence pending the outcome of Rajan’s appeal against the MCOCA court’s verdict.
