Big salami odds, best bets for the highest scoring game

Big salami odds, best bets for the highest scoring game

With all 32 teams in action at the NHL Frozen Frenzy on Tuesday, there will be plenty of unique sports betting offerings, but let’s focus on scoring.

Total goals (Grand Salami)

The record for most goals in a single NHL day is 114, set in 15 games on November 14, 2023. There were 102 goals scored in last year’s Frozen Frenzy, but despite a slight increase in scoring chances this season, the oddsmakers have set the limit at 100.5, in favor of the lower team.

Overall goals Opportunities
Over 100.5 -105
Under 100.5 -115

It’s important to note that five or fewer goals were scored in more than half of last season’s games. The NHL was fortunate to have a combined nine goals scored in two more meetings and ten or more goals scored in three more games. Even though 102 goals were scored in last year’s Frozen Frenzy, this is not the norm and sportsbooks are well aware of this.

Choose: Below 100.5 (-115)

Odds for the highest scoring game

When it comes to picking the highest scoring game, the most obvious choices often don’t offer the kind of potential return that would be nice in a market like this. However, the most obvious decisions seem to be the best ones when it comes to Tuesday’s lineup.

Of course, New Jersey and Tampa Bay will be a game that fans will circle because of the offense. The Lightning are coming off a 5-2 loss to the Maple Leafs on Monday, and Jonas Johansson is expected to be in the starting lineup, or at least he was. That’s not so clear now that Jon Cooper has decided to move on from Andrei Vasilevskiy in Toronto.

Colorado and Seattle are an intriguing matchup. The Avalanche and Kraken were solid offensively and Colorado was a disaster defensively. No team has allowed more goals per 60 minutes than the Avalanche so far this season, but Alexandar Georgiev won’t be in the crease on Tuesday.

Of the middle-of-the-pack games, Los Angeles and Vegas probably stand out the most at +1200. I mean, at least seven goals were scored in six of the eight games the Golden Knights played, including a 12-goal game against Colorado. Meanwhile, the Kings and Senators have combined for the most goals in a game so far this season (15). However, David Rittich has not allowed more than five goals in a game since joining Nashville in November 2021, and Vegas has not allowed more than four goals all season.

There are some interesting options out there, but personally I just don’t think there’s enough value to justify a decision here, especially considering what’s available in this market globally. I think the best option is to try to pick the highest scoring team instead.

Highest scoring team odds

Toronto will likely hand the Blue Jackets a loss on Tuesday, but while Daniil Tarasov is usually a good bet to allow more than three goals, I don’t think it’s a good idea to bet on the +650 favorite if he gets one has from two teams playing in the second half of a meeting.

Vancouver is another interesting option. The Canucks were involved in the two highest-scoring games last season, but the Chicago Blackhawks were better defensively than last season. Chicago ranks 14th in goals conceded per 60 minutes this season. Vancouver may also be without JT Miller for Tuesday’s game.

Things get a little more interesting as we go along. The Jets currently lead the league in scoring and scored eight goals against San Jose, but the Sharks are the worst team in hockey and 16/1 isn’t nearly good enough when it comes to a matchup between Connor Hellebuyck and Jordan Binnington. You would have to go back to 2019 to find a meeting between these two Central Division teams where there were more than seven goals.

In my opinion, Dallas is the best choice at 14/1. The Stars haven’t scored more than four goals in a game this season, but that’s the same offense that nearly led the league last season, and the Sabers currently rank 25th in goals conceded per 60 minutes.

The Stars were one of five teams to score more than nine goals in a game last season, and they also scored eight in a game. The Sabres, meanwhile, were one of four teams to allow more than nine goals last season, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen also allowed eight goals in a game.

Choose: Dallas Stars +1400
