Northeast Football is preparing to host the playoff game

GOOSE LAKE, Iowa (KWQC) – Iowa’s small school playoff season begins this week, and for the first time in several years, the Northeast football team will host a playoff game.

The Rebels had a phenomenal season, finishing 7-1, tied with Anamosa for the District 4 championship.

The season featured amazing comeback victories in a few games against Camanche and West Liberty, with the Rebels averaging 37 points per game.

Their only loss came in the final week of the regular season, and now the Rebels are looking to bounce back and advance deep into the postseason.

“We were there for a few years, you know, didn’t have a lot of wins and over a long period of time,” Rebels head coach Mark Lee said. “To see it develop in this direction was just great. Our fans have been great, they travel well and just cheer on their Rebels.”

“Our main goal is to get back on our feet. I mean, the last game obviously sucked,” Rebels senior Grant Gray said. “We have to work really hard in the next few days of training. We just have to leave it all out there, for some of us it could be our last game, you never know, you just have to put it all on the line, blood, sweat, tears and you just have to grind through it.”

“I mean, it’s really cool when they had to drive to Mid Prairie last year, a two and a half hour drive, I mean that was tough, but they still did it for us and it’s really cool to be able to do it.” “Homecoming game for them this year,” Rebels senior Gavin Kramer said.

Northeast will host Mepo at Goose Lake on Friday night.
