Duluth soccer organization raises money for destroyed shed

DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – The Piedmont Soccer Organization in Duluth is raising money to offset costs after its shed was destroyed for the second time this year.

Jim Watts, the director of Piedmont Youth Soccer, said they had to replace the access door to their garage after the first incident.

Watts said this incident was more damaging.

“Got right into our garage door and caused so much damage that we have to replace it,” Watts said.

Watts added that whoever did it also took the portable toilet to the soccer field.

Although the club uses the field, it belongs to Christ Lutheran Church.

To offset costs, organizers have created a GoFundMe.

According to GoFundMe, the cost to replace the shed door would be about $500, including the cost of the door and installation.

Without help, Watts said this would be difficult for the club.

“At the end of the day, we are a small operational club,” Watts said. “We have an operating budget of less than $1,500 year-over-year.”

Watts said the cost of repairing the shed would account for nearly half of the organization’s annual budget.

As of Tuesday, they have reached their $500 goal.

Watts said any additional money would help support her program for things like scholarships and maintenance.

“I think it’s a testament to our community that people stepped up and helped us recoup some of those costs,” Watts said. “We will be able to replace it without any disadvantages for the club.”

The police came to look at the damage.
