Dozens of SUNY campuses waive application fees for free application weeks

High school graduates will benefit from free application weeks at 64 State University of New York campuses from October 21 to November 3, according to statements from State Senator Lea Webb and Governor Kathy Hochul this month. Students can have fees waived for up to five applications, saving up to $250.

“As a proud SUNY alumna and former educator at SUNY, I am pleased that New York State is expanding access to our incredible public facilities,” Senator Webb said in a statement. “Waiving application fees opens the door for students to continue their educational journey and helps us reverse declining enrollment and create pathways to success.

SUNY tuition is just $7,070 per year. Students can apply through ApplySUNY or the Common App. Students using ApplySUNY will find that their first five applications will have their fees automatically waived, and those using the Common App will need to select “yes” for a fee waiver at each school they apply to, where Fees are waived for up to five applications.

“Students who already benefit from existing SUNY fee waiver programs, including those from low-income households, foster care, military-connected families, or those attending high schools with high numbers of free and reduced-price lunch recipients, will continue to be eligible for ongoing fee waivers apply.” “says Senator Webb.

Over 140 colleges and universities in New York State are waiving their application fees, including all SUNY campuses, including Tompkins Cortland Community College, SUNY Cortland and Binghamton University; City University of New York (CUNY) Schools; and a few dozen independent colleges and universities.
