WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WFHR, WIRI) – The Assumption and Wisconsin Rapids High School football teams concluded the regular season in exciting fashion on Thursday and Friday, October 17th and 18th.

The Royals overcame nine turnovers in the game and secured a safety with just over two minutes to play. As the clock ran out, they intercepted at the goal line to secure a 22-20 victory over Rosholt on Matchday 17Th.

Rapids needed similar heroics as they earned a 28-24 victory over Eau Claire North in the season finale after leading nearly the entire game.

The Huskies kicked a field goal with three minutes left to take a 24-21 lead, but the Raiders had one last attempt to regain the lead when Rapids’ Leo Rangel scored a 25-yard touchdown with 11 seconds left in regulation Shot that brought the win back to the Raiders.

Port Edwards captured its first conference title since 2019 when it secured a share of the Mideast Conference title with a 38-20 victory over Tri-County and shared the championship with Almond-f and Newman Catholic 6-1- Shared records in league play.

Nekoosa had a strong first-half performance against the Wisconsin Dells, but the opposite was true in the second half as the Chiefs cruised to a 26-16 win.

The Papermakers led 16-6 at halftime but were unable to reach the end zone the rest of the way as they finished third in the South Central Conference.

Nekoosa and Port Edwards qualified for the playoffs, where the Papermakers were seeded No. 5 and will play in the WIAA Division 6 playoffs at Abbotsford, while Port was seeded No. 4 and will play the top seed in the WIAA Division 6 playoffs Owen-Withee will play -player game ranks.

Both high school football games will be played on Friday, October 25 at 7 p.m.
