The Chargers-Cardinals attracted 1.8 million viewers

The staggered doubleheader, with one game on television and cable and the other on the ESPN+ service, unsurprisingly resulted in less than stellar viewership for the streamed game between the Chargers and Cardinals.

ESPN didn’t mention it the viewership numbers in the press release for Week 7’s Monday night games, and for good reason. The game attracted an audience of 1.8 million, according to a source with knowledge of the data.

And that includes those who watched over over-the-air channels in the local Phoenix and Los Angeles markets.

These days, 1.8 million isn’t a bad number for a sporting event. That’s a terrible number for an NFL game. And that’s why ESPN didn’t mention the Chargers-Cardinals viewership numbers.

Hopefully the number was low enough to convince ESPN not to host another staggered doubleheader with one of the games on ESPN+. And if they want to get rid of staggered Monday night doubleheaders altogether, I won’t complain.
