The FBI is investigating the leak of top-secret US intelligence on Israel’s Iran attack plan

The FBI confirmed it is investigating the reported leak of top-secret U.S. intelligence documents that purported to provide evidence of Israel’s planned attack on Iran.

In a statement to The Epoch Times on Tuesday, a spokesperson confirmed that “the FBI is investigating the suspected loss of classified documents and is working closely with our partners at the Departments of Defense and Intelligence.”

Citing an ongoing investigation into the matter, the FBI spokesman declined further comment.

Earlier this week, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) told CNN that the broader U.S. government is investigating the leak of the classified documents, which were posted on a Telegram channel and other social media channels in recent days. Media platforms were published. The Epoch Times could not independently verify its authenticity.

An “investigation [is] “It’s ongoing and I’ll be briefed on it in a few hours,” Johnson told CNN, adding that his office is “following the matter closely.”

White House national security spokesman John Kirby said Monday that the Biden administration was not entirely sure whether the information was hacked or leaked, adding that there was no indication that “additional documents like this find their way into the public”. In a statement, the Pentagon said it was aware of the reports about the documents but had no further comment.

These materials appear to have been produced by the US National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, a support agency of the Department of Defense (DOD), and the National Security Agency (NSA), another intelligence agency.

The documents noted that Israel is still moving military assets into place to carry out a military strike in response to Iran’s devastating ballistic missile attack on October 1. They were shared within the “Five Eyes”, an intelligence alliance consisting of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

The Telegram and An Epoch Times review of the channel and his X account shows that he frequently posts pro-Iranian content, while his X account profile indicates that he is based in Iran.

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s “top secret” documents published online indicate that Israel is expected to carry out attacks on Iran and that Israel has made preparations for its munitions for its activities. However, it noted that US officials cannot determine the “scale and scope” of the Israeli attack.

The documents cited satellite images taken in Israel between October 15 and 16.

If the report is accurate and confirmed, it suggests that the United States is closely monitoring Israeli activities and assessing whether they are preparing to attack Iran, including the use of satellites in Israeli Air Force operations.

On Monday, Kirby told reporters that President Joe Biden was closely monitoring the results of the leak investigation.

“The President remains deeply concerned about the release of classified information to the public. This cannot be allowed to happen and it is unacceptable if it does happen,” Kirby said.

Israel has carried out a large-scale retaliatory operation in recent weeks against Hezbollah, an Iran-backed terrorist organization and political party in Lebanon. An airstrike attributed to the Israeli military killed longtime former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and a number of other senior officials in the organization.

About three weeks ago, Iran fired a barrage of missiles at Israel in response to recent military activity, including Israel’s separate military campaign against Hamas, the Gaza-based terrorist group responsible for the attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023, in which there were further attacks More than 1,200 dead, thousands injured and at least 250 hostages.

Earlier this year, Jack Teixeira, an Air National Guard soldier, pleaded guilty to leaking top-secret military documents about Russia’s war against Ukraine and other national security secrets.

The Israeli military did not respond to requests for comment on the leak of the two documents.
