This is what a Material You video player (for Google Drive) looks like

On the web, Google Drive has one of Material You’s better applications alongside Gmail, and now gets a “smoother, more modern video player.”

Previously, Google Drive only used a video player that matched YouTube’s. This new design features a Material 3 slider that was introduced earlier this year. Instead of a circular playhead, the “handle” is a vertical line and is physically separate from the progress bar or “track”. This component is white instead of red.

You then have a large play/pause button on the left, while a container next to it allows you to fast forward and rewind by 10 seconds with the next elapsed/total time. The last rounded rectangle on the right allows you to adjust volume, subtitles, playback speed and other settings and switch to full screen mode.

Overall, Google touts “clearer lines, intuitive controls, and a less cluttered viewing experience.”

This Material You video player will be rolling out to “all Google Workspace customers, individual Workspace subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts” in the coming weeks.
