The above-average temperatures will continue

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – The calendar shows October, but conditions for the final leg of the month will feel more like September.

KPLC First Warning Forecast(KPLC)

This trend will continue on Wednesday, with another warm afternoon expected. Until then, we can expect a cool start to the day, with foggy areas being a good choice in the morning. Some of these areas may be locally dense at times. But that won’t prevent another day of high temperatures in the mid-80s. A few more cool nights are expected this week. Lows should remain in the 50s away from the coast through Thursday morning, with around 40 possible in our typically cooler locations north of the highway.

Unfortunately, rain is not forecast for at least the next 5-7 days. There will be a weak front heading our way this weekend, but it probably won’t make it. Some longer range models suggest better humidity and possibly some showers could arrive by the middle of next week. However, significant rainfall is still unlikely for the time being.

This means we must exercise caution when engaging in outdoor activities and avoid burning while dry weather warnings and burn bans are in effect. At least some fire danger will likely continue for some time as much of SWLA remains in Drought Level 2/4 (Severe) on the U.S. Drought Monitor. An extension or worsening of the moderate drought we are in is entirely possible in the next update on Thursday. Burn bans now include Calcasieu, Jeff Davis, Allen, Beauregard and Vernon parishes.
