The Minnesota Lynx’s 2024 season ended just a few days ago, and their chance at a fifth championship in franchise history has failed. In case you didn’t notice, there was a lot of criticism after the game, which even led to Cheryl Reeve leaving during the post-game press conference.

Minnesota Lynx coach and PoBO Cheryl Reeve to NBA…?

Cheryl Reeve just completed her 15th season as head coach of the Minnesota Lynx. She has four championships under her belt, which is the most in WNBA history. Reeve is also president of basketball operations for the Lynx.

Not only is she causing a stir with the Lynx, she also leads the US women’s basketball team. She took home gold at the 2024 Olympics this summer. At 58, what’s next for Cheryl Reeve? Well, Charley Walters of Pioneer Press just made an interesting comment in his last column in which he claims: “Without a doubt, Cheryl Reeve of the Lynx will be the NBA’s first female head coach.”.

Walters is one of Minnesota’s most dedicated insiders. This isn’t something he would just throw on the internet without hearing it somewhere else first. It will be really interesting to see how this develops. With the NBA season starting tonight and no head coach spots currently available, what exactly does he mean?

If an NBA coach is fired early, could she get this job? It’s definitely a possibility. Additionally, the WNBA season runs on a different schedule than the NBA, which opens the door for double duty if she wants to stay with the Lynx. Who knows what could happen.

She has done it all, winning multiple championships and securing gold medals in both the WNBA and the Olympics. So could she actually make a splash in the NBA?

It might sound a bit wild, but given her impressive track record, it’s not entirely out of the question. In fact, Walters believes she is already on her way to becoming the first female head coach in the NBA.

It’s worth noting that Charley Walters, a longtime sportswriter for the Pioneer Press, has been a well-known figure in the area for years. Is he spot on about everything? No. But he definitely has solid connections and access to top-notch sources. Only time will tell whether he is ultimately right.
