Ben Stiller directs this exciting crime series

The waiting for Severance pay Season 2 on Apple TV+ was a pain, but if you’re looking for something to watch in the meantime, we have a recommendation for you. This Tuesday, Netflix added the Showtime limited series Escape to Dannemora to his streaming library, a 2018 crime drama also directed by Ben Stiller.

Escape to Dannemora based on an incredible true story. In 2015, a prison employee at Clinton Correctional Facility, a maximum security prison in upstate New York, became romantically involved with two committed criminals and helped them escape.

The limited series features a brilliant cast: Benicio del Toro and Paul Dano play the convicted murderers, Patricia Arquette plays the married prison employee, Bonnie Hunt plays New York State Inspector General Catherine Leahy Scott, and Michael Imperioli plays Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Escape to Dannemora was created and written by Brett Johnson (mad Men) and Michael Tolkin (The player) and all seven episodes were directed by Ben Stiller.

Reviews were generally positive, although many critics criticized the series for its leisurely pace. You should be aware that this is a slow burn process. So don’t expect fireworks in every episode. As Troy Patterson put it in his The New Yorker Review of the series: “Patricia Arquette’s excellence as Tilly is the strongest selling point of a show in which the points of an unsurprising plot are secondary to a memorable intensity of performances.”

This was Stiller’s directorial debut on television, and we may not have done that Severance pay if it weren’t for his experience at work Escape to Dannemora. He will return to the director’s chair Severance pay Season 2, set to debut on Apple TV+ in January 2025.
