Sega’s Shinobi series is being made into a film

We’re constantly talking on this website about the various video game franchises that are being adapted for either the big screen or the silver screen. The reason we keep doing this is because it keeps happening! Just when you think the film is “slowing down,” it picks up again at incredible speed and you wonder what the next feature the adaptation will get is. In today’s case we know that the Shinobi Sega’s franchise will be the next adaptation and it will be a film directed by Sam Hargrave, known for a series of Netflix films, among others.

As ComicBook.com noted, we don’t know exactly what the film will be about or if the film will follow the video game’s main character, Joe Musashi. However, we do know that Universal is directing, which is important as there have been a number of successful video game movie adaptations, not least the multi-billion dollar film starring Mario. We’re just saying it.

The original game in this series was an arcade title and followed the script you would expect from a game like this: a ninja used his ninja skills to make his way through a side-scrolling world. Given that ninjas have been key characters in various films for decades, it’s not hard to see how things could translate into film in this case. How well it will work is, of course, a completely different question.

If you recall, Sega noted last year that they were embarking on an initiative to not only expand their craft, but also bring many of the once Sega-defining franchises back into the modern era for players to either enjoy again or see for the first time Just. Shinobi is one of those series, and it’s not hard to see why they would want to bring this back, especially with the movie coming out now.

When it comes to Sam Musgrave, the films he is most associated with are the extractionMovies that were big hits for Netflix when they both came out. We wanted to point out these as they were known for their intense action sequences, some of which lasted very long. So if he put the same effort into this video game movie, we could get something special.

If not, we’ll get something similar to another assassin movie Ubisoft once made…
