Nine hundred free trees are to be distributed in Riegelwood

RIEGELWOOD, NC (WECT) – Nine hundred free trees will be distributed in Riegelwood on Saturday, November 2nd, according to the City of Wilmington.

According to the announcement, the Alliance for Cape Fear Trees will distribute the three to five gallon trees. Those interested may pick up a maximum of two trees at Riegelwood Baptist Church, 103 NC 87, between 9:30 a.m. and noon.

Tree species available include:

  • American elm
  • Armstrong red maple
  • Brandywine Red Maple
  • October Glory Maple
  • Serviceberry
  • Dura Heat River Birch
  • American Holly Satyr Hill
  • Bracken’s brown beauty magnolia
  • Small Gemstone Magnolia
  • Swamp white oak
  • Overcup oak
  • Nuttall oak

“We believe everyone should have access to trees, and we want to give this community the resources they need!” the Alliance for Cape Fear Trees explains. “This event is in collaboration with the International Paper and Arbor Day Foundation. We want this event to have a large turnout and most importantly we want all the trees to be given away!

“Everyone deserves trees! Green spaces and development threaten our beautiful natural environments in North Carolina. But we want to counteract this by giving away trees so that people can plant them at their own discretion. Be it in their yards or common areas. Bring a photo or description of where you want your new tree to be and our experts can help you choose the best species options!”
