Football: Another big week of regional games, headlines…

Flowery Branch swept Walnut Grove last week to move to fourth place in Region 8-4A. If the Falcons win one of the next two games, they will retain fourth place.

It was just one game that turned heads in Week 10. Cherokee Bluff held off Oconee County to remain tied with Jefferson at the top of the Region 8-3A standings. The two are playing this week. We also watched North Hall defeat Lumpkin County and significantly solidify the 6-3A region lead. Speaking of Region 6-3A, Dawson County’s fake punt stopped Chestatee’s comeback and gave the Tigers fourth place in the region, and Jackson County beat Winder-Barrow to take second place in Region 8-5A.

The two weeks will be exciting, starting with Week 11, as several important regional games are on the schedule, including three the Jacobs Media airwaves and live streaming on AccessWDUN.com.

To follow this week’s results and more, follow our Friday Game Night X for results, stories and highlights.

Cherokee Bluff near Jefferson ā€” It’s another first for Cherokee Bluff this week. They’re playing the third-ranked Dragons for the first time in school history, and it could be the Bears’ biggest regular season game ever. Cherokee Bluff went through the season undefeated. The Dragons now only have one defeat. However, both teams are unblemished in Region 8-3A play, meaning the winner will take the lead in the standings. Yes, it’s a massive game where the winner takes control. The game can be heard live on WDUN AM 550 (Click here to listen live).

West hall in the east hall ā€” This game could still have an impact on the final standings of the region, at least for West Hall. The Spartans still have Monroe Area on the schedule next week, and if they beat the Vikings on Friday and Monroe Area next week, they would take fourth place. However, the Vikings won’t go down easily. They are also hungry for their first regional win. Both West Hall and East Hall have offenses with dynamic players. Expect this to be a high scoring affair. The The game can be heard live FM 102.9 WDUN (Click here to listen live).

Gainesville near Roswell ā€“ If Gainesville wants to have a chance at a home playoff game, they will have to beat Roswell. The Hornets are tied with top-ranked Milton in the Reigon 7-5A standings and finish the season tied with Gainesville and Milton. Now this region could get interesting if Big Red beats Roswell and Roswell beats Milton next week. There would be a three-way tie at the top of the table. However, Gainesville will need to take care of away business this week for that to happen. If so, a first-round playoff game would be held at City Park on November 15th. The game can be heard live on FM 94.5 The Lake (Click here to listen live).
