Former Seton Hall star receives two-way NBA contract

Former Seton Hall star Jared Rhoden continues to earn opportunities in the NBA.

The Charlotte Hornets claimed the former Pirate off waivers and signed him to a two-way contract before the start of the 2024-25 NBA season on Tuesday night.

Players on two-way contracts split their time between their respective NBA teams and the same franchise’s G League affiliate. They are paid based on the league they play in.

The 6-foot-6 Rhoden appeared in 17 games with the Detroit Pistons last season and averaged 4.9 points (50.0 FG%, 38.7 3P%) in 14.4 minutes per game 1.9 rebounds. He played in 31 games for the Pistons in two NBA seasons and posted career averages of 4.1 points and 2.3 rebounds. In 81 career NBA G League appearances, Rhoden averaged 19.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game.

A native of Baldwin, New York, Rhoden played four seasons at Seton Hall and left the program as one of 12 Pirates to record more than 1,200 points and 600 rebounds in their careers. He was named All-Big East First Team for the 2021–22 season and was named to the All-Big East Tournament team in 2021.

His former teammate Sandro Mamukelashvili is also in the San Antonio Spurs’ opening squad. In July, the 6-11 big man signed a one-year, $2,162,606 contract with San Antonio after averaging 4.1 points and 3.2 rebounds last season.
