Postseason action begins this week for all four Pella Christian | fall sports teams KNIA KRLS Radio

All four of Pella Christian’s fall sports teams begin postseason action this week, competing on consecutive days.

The Class 2A #9 Eagles volleyball team begins this week’s playoffs on Wednesday, hosting Earlham in the Region 8 round quarterfinals. Pella Christian, which earned a bye in the first round and was unable to play Monday, will be coming off a 2-2 finish at the Knoxville Invitational this past Saturday. Earlham advanced to its quarterfinal game against the Eagles on Monday with a win over West Central Valley. The Cardinals’ win on Monday gave them their third victory in their last five contests after falling 2-2 in the West Central Conference tournament last week. The Pella Christian volleyball team’s quarterfinal game against Earlham begins Wednesday at 7 p.m. and can be watched live on the Pella Christian YouTube channel.

The Eagles’ ranked cross country teams will compete Thursday, hosting one of five Class 2A qualifying meets at Pella Sports Park. Both Pella Christian’s boys and girls cross country teams placed fifth at the Little Hawkeye Conference meet at Maytag Park in Newton last Monday. In their quest to reach state for the fourth straight year, the Class 2A No. 13 Eagle boys will face three ranked teams in No. 1 Mid-Prairie, No. 11 Anamosa and No. 18 Mediapolis. After missing out as a team last fall against State, the #7 Pella Christian girls will look to return to Fort Dodge for the second time in three years. The Eagle girls will also compete against three ranked teams in #2 Mid-Prairie, #10 Hudson and #18 Grundy Center. Pella Christian’s state qualifying meet at Pella Sports Park is scheduled to begin Thursday at 4 p.m.

The conclusion of this week’s postseason action for Pella Christian will be the football team’s Class 1A first-round playoff game at #6 South Hardin on Friday night. The Eagles secured third place in their district standings with a 35-0 shutout win over Colfax-Mingo last week. South Harden finished second in the Class 1A, District 4 standings at 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the district. The Tigers’ only loss was a 35-0 loss to #1 Grundy Center. In its seven wins, South Hardin outscored its opponents 306-73, with an average margin of victory of 33 points. Coverage of the Pella Christian football team’s first round playoff game at South Hardin on Friday night can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS, beginning with pregame coverage at 6:30 p.m. Kick-off will take place after pre-match coverage at 7:00 p.m.
