Spending money and fighting are Americans’ top list of regrets

Americans are more likely to regret the things they didn’t do than the things they did do. That’s according to a survey of 2,000 U.S. adults across all generations conducted by Talker Research on behalf of Mucinex, which found that only 11% of Americans have no regrets. These missed opportunities add up when they don’t speak up (40%), don’t visit their family or friends enough (36%), and don’t achieve their dreams (35%). Over the course of their lives, Americans miss an average of three opportunities to take a once-in-a-lifetime trip, four missed opportunities to ask their crush out, and six times they didn’t get the perfect answer in an argument. On the other hand, the most common actions Americans regret include spending money or buying something (49%), arguing with friends or family (43%), and making an unnecessary comment (36%). Over the years, Americans also regret an average of five angry text messages and two breakups.
