Construction for The People’s Open is now underway and the Thunderbirds, hosts of the World Cup Phoenix Open, have announced several changes and improvements for the upcoming event designed to improve the overall fan experience. Changes this year include the addition of an additional tournament entrance, a fully digital platform for general admission ticket sales, improved viewing areas and upgraded general entry locations for fans.

“Each year, the Thunderbirds review the previous tournament and look for ways to improve,” said Matt Mooney, chairman of the 2025 WM Phoenix Open tournament. We have worked closely with the PGA TOUR, Scottsdale Police and Fire, title sponsor WM and our other valued partners to make impactful changes for 2025. We are pleased to announce these improvements as the countdown to The People’s Open begins.”

INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS

To make it easier to enter and exit the tournament, a new fan entrance will be added at the Hayden Loop Greenway, north of Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard (in close proximity to the 18th tee). This additional entrance is intended to improve the flow of people, especially during peak hours on busy days such as Friday and Saturday. The Hayden Loop Greenway will be closed to general public vehicle traffic from Frank Lloyd Wright to Princess Drive, further facilitating both entry and exit.

“The additional entrance will significantly improve the flow of fans entering and exiting TPC Scottsdale,” Mooney said. “This entrance will relieve congestion on our main entrance and allow fans a much shorter walk in high-traffic areas near holes 16, 17 and 18.”

To improve pedestrian traffic, several sidewalks around the route were expanded. For example, the path that starts near 17Th fairway and extends to the 11thTh Hole teeing area (between the 16thTh hole and 10Th The hole (hole) has been doubled in width, giving fans more space to move more easily and comfortably in one of the traditionally most popular and heavily trafficked areas of the golf course. Additionally, several food and alcohol vendors will be strategically relocated to accommodate foot traffic around the route.

“We know how important it is for our fans to have an easy and accessible way to navigate the golf course,” Mooney said. “We are expanding these important walkways and repositioning some of our vendors, particularly in high-traffic areas like 16thTh and 10Th Holes will allow fans better access to popular venues and viewing areas.”

OPERATIONAL IMPROVEMENTS

The 2025 WM Phoenix Open will introduce a fully digital ticket format for all WM Phoenix Open tickets and Coors Light Birds Nest tickets. This all-digital platform will accelerate the flow of people at entrances and monitor key metrics to optimize the entire fan experience.

“We are upgrading technology to provide a more seamless experience for our fans who purchase general admission tickets,” Mooney said. “By eliminating physical general admission tickets, day passes and tickets sold by third-party partners, we not only improve the purchasing and scanning process, but also improve our control over crowd management.”

FAN EXPERIENCE

Consistent with the Thunderbirds’ commitment to improving the overall fan experience each year, two general admission venues will receive additional enhancements for the 2025 event.

The Taylor Morrison Fairway House on the 12th hole will be redesigned to provide fans with a more comfortable and spacious venue. This updated layout will create more accessible viewing areas as well as more space for improved concessions and new fan engagement opportunities.

Meanwhile, improvements at the Desert Oasis BBQ and Beer Garden near the 7th hole will provide fans with elevated views of multiple holes. Fans can also look forward to enjoying a variety of craft beers and barbecue from Little Miss BBQ, all in an enhanced, fan-friendly environment.

“With the upgrades to the Taylor Morrison Fairway House and Desert Oasis, we are improving two of the most popular spots on the golf course,” Mooney said. “Fans can look forward to better viewing options, improved concessions and a larger area to watch The People’s Open.”
