Keep everything clean and easy with this MacBook Pro cable management tip

It’s another exciting Monday, so we thought we’d spice things up with everyone’s flashiest favorite topic: cable management. Sarcasm aside, it’s at the top of the list of things people just love have donenot planning (and fearing) or actually doing (in a half-hearted way). Anyone who has ever been forced to clean their room can relate. So today’s easily digestible tidbit comes from a MacBook Pro user who shares a simple and effective MacBook Pro cable management tip.

Keep your setup pristine with this user’s MacBook Pro cable management tip

Redditor kevohreal (“Kev”) introduced the setup and its eye-catching display wallpaper in a post titled “My WFH Studio Display Standing Desk.” He runs a MacBook Pro in clamshell mode (closed) on a vertical stand and controls a studio display. It features an exceptionally clean setup with beautiful RGB lighting behind a standing desk and the colors are set to match the beautiful desktop wallpapers on Basic Apple Guy’s screen. And Kev is the relatively rare user who prefers the Magic Trackpad to a mouse (not both) and uses it with a Logitech MX Keys mini keyboard.

“That’s all you need for a minimal workspace,” said one appreciative commenter. “Good job, dude!”

“Does the LED backlight respond to the monitor’s image colors?” asked another. As you can see in the photo, the colorful splash looks great on the wall behind the desk.

“No, I just customized it accordingly, but it can sync with music (which I didn’t enable),” Kev replied. “Govee RBGIC LED strips.”

And then came a question that leads directly to today’s main topic: Why don’t cables appear in the setup? It’s one of those flawless setups that make it look that way all the equipment is wireless, possibly with unlimited battery life. But of course it isn’t.

“What does your cable management look like when you connect your MacBook to your display?” asked one commenter.

“A single 6-foot Thunderbolt cable with pass-through charging runs underneath (zipped to the desk frame in a cable channel and back to the display),” Kev replied.

So that’s easy. All he does is attach a Thunderbolt cable that runs from the display to the desk frame with a plastic cable tie. Then he runs it through a conduit that probably matches the color of the wall and runs the cable to the port on the back of the laptop. Presto, no cable! (And the dark lighting undoubtedly helps hide it.)

And if you like the eye-catching desktop wallpaper that appears on the Studio Display, it’s something Basic Apple Guy developed in 2017 called “Strokes.”
