Veteran US lawmaker says revealing Israeli intelligence is considered ‘treason’

Top-secret documents dated October 15 and 16 showing Israel’s plans to retaliate against Iran were leaked to an Iranian Telegram account on Friday. Mast, a U.S. military veteran and former Israel Defense Forces volunteer, said there are “a lot of leaks in these ships.” Although the US cannot determine the exact source of the leaks, it knows they exist.

When Fox News’ Harris Faulkner suggested that the leaker might be committing treason by sharing Israel’s possible plan to attack Iran, Mast agreed that she was “correct” in assessing it. Israel is considered a key U.S. ally in the Middle East, in part because both countries share a common enemy in Iran.

Mast explained that Israel’s plans for Iran would have “great benefit” for the US if it decided to attack Iran. For example, he referred to the possibility that Israel could choose to attack Iran’s oil sites, which would “put China on its heels” because Iran supplies it with oil.

The Florida congressman also addressed the 2024 presidential election and its impact on the conflict in the Middle East. Mast cited Vice President Kamala Harris’s statement that she “wouldn’t do anything different” than President Joe Biden, while former President Donald Trump strongly supported Israel in his first term, which he said would continue into a second term.

The announcement of a possible Israeli attack came after Iran launched rocket fire against Israel on October 1. Just a few months earlier, Iran also launched a missile attack on Israel.

On Monday, Israeli law enforcement officials announced they had arrested seven citizens suspected of spying for Iran. The suspects are being held in custody and charges will be filed shortly.
