Evergreen plants and walnut wood. These aren’t typical design style thoughts when you’re thinking about purchasing a new food processor for your kitchen.

But KitchenAid reckons they’ve struck a winning combination with the unveiling of the latest edition to their design series – a limited edition that comes with a higher price tag – a stand mixer for 2024: Evergreen, in an earthy, deep forest green with a lush matte finish.

However, the color isn’t the only thing that makes this food processor a standout in your kitchen, as it comes with the brand’s first real walnut bowl.

KitchenAid’s Design Series stand mixers are designed to blur the boundaries between appliance and art through unique colors, surfaces and materials. So the question is, why choose this deep, dark color?

According to the design experts at KitchenAid, it’s all about bringing a touch of Mother Nature into your home.

“Evergreen is about awakening the creative spirit by bringing the wonder of nature’s most powerful and vibrant elements into the kitchen,” said Brittni Pertijs, head of color, material and surface design at Whirlpool, the brand’s owner KitchenAid.

“The design team was inspired by the concept of nature and how it can calm you through its fresh and revitalizing elements,” said Pertijs. “We also frequently look at interior design trends and knew that consumers’ desire to incorporate outdoor elements into the home was becoming increasingly popular. Nature offers a very special kind of clarity and comfort, so we wanted to play around with this idea and see how it translates to the kitchen.”

As for the walnut shell, which is included in the Evergreen version and is not available individually, Pertijs says it is also due to the design trends her team has seen for 2024, including biophilic design and tactile textures.

“Biophilic design emphasizes the art of bringing nature indoors and emphasizes the use of natural materials to create natural textures and earthy tones,” she said. “This is evident in the use of wood for the walnut shell as well as the leaf design and deep green color of the food processor.”

The blade design she is referring to is found on the special brass plated hub cover – the opening for attaching various KitchenAid attachments – of this version of the design series.

“Our Design Series stand mixers feature carefully selected and redesigned bowls, hub covers, decorative bands and buttons,” added Pertijs. “The Walnut Shell for Evergreen was one of our conscious efforts to bring our customers’ favorite part of nature directly to their countertops. Compared to previous KitchenAid bowls that are made of stainless steel, the Evergreen stand mixer bowl is the first of its kind from KitchenAid and is made from 100 percent real walnut wood. The Walnut Bowl is a 5 liter walnut mixing bowl with a unique wood grain pattern and a food-safe finish.”

Note, however, that unlike virtually most stainless steel bowls found in other versions of KitchenAid’s legendary stand mixer, this walnut bowl does not have a handle.

If you choose this version of the Design Series, priced at $999.99, KitchenAid believes it is suitable for virtually any kitchen on the market.

“With its warm, neutral tones and natural materials, the Evergreen food processor is designed to fit seamlessly into any kitchen,” said Pertijs. “The limited edition food processor would fit equally well in a warm, neutral kitchen as it would in a cool home, as its natural elements such as plants are essential in any interior design.”

However, Pertijs added that the best combination is black and neutral tones, making Evergreen’s deep forest green tone, walnut shell and brass accents stand out.

In addition, according to Pertijs, green has been a trend color in recent years, but has now evolved from that color to a primary color.

The Evergreen Design Series stand mixer can be purchased at KitchenAid.ca, Crate and Barrel and Williams Sonoma.
