Video forecast for Monday lunchtime

The coming working week will continue the 16-day dry spell for the capital region. Temperatures will also remain above average, potentially flirting with record warmth by the end of the week.

Today and tonight: Monday morning will be cool, temperatures north of I-10/12 will drop into the 40s and the capital will see morning lows of around 50 degrees. Conditions will warm quickly, reaching the mid 80s again this afternoon. It will be a pleasant day with lots of sunshine and low humidity. Winds continue to remain light from the ENE, reaching 5 to 10 mph. Overnight, mostly clear skies will ensure another cool start with low 50s on Tuesday.

Next: Similar conditions can be expected throughout the work week. Cool mornings in the 50s will be followed by warm afternoons in the 80s. With no rain this week and low cloud cover, afternoon temperatures will be 5-10° above average for the second half of the work week; some days flirt with record highs.

In the entire month of October, there was only one day with measurable precipitation (0.13 inches at Metro Airport on October 4). There was a lack of rain for the rest of the month and it continues to look unlikely for rain in the next seven days. Based on current trends, it is possible that this October will be one of the top 10 driest regions. Therefore, The Storm Station will keep an eye on the drought status. The next update will come on Thursday.

The Tropics: Oscar made landfall twice on Sunday, first on Great Inagua Island early in the morning and then in eastern Cuba in the afternoon. Oscar is a tiny system and is one of the smallest hurricanes of all time. By early Monday, the storm had weakened to tropical storm strength and was moving northeast over the water toward the Bahamas. The system is forecast to maintain tropical storm status as it passes the Bahamas. By midweek, increasingly severe conditions will cause the storm to dissipate.

No further tropical development is expected over the next seven days.
