The University of Utah football team embarks on its fourth road trip of the season and will face the Houston Cougars on Saturday, October 26th. The game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. MT on ESPN+.

NEW CONFERENCE, SAME TRADITION

Utah Football began a new era in 2024, joining the Big 12 Conference. The Utes were also part of the Rocky Mountain Conference (1910–1937), the Big Seven (1938–1947), the Skyline (1948–1961), the Western Athletic Conference (1962–1998), and the Mountain West (1999). -2010) and the Pac-12 (2011-2023).

  • Utah has a 446-263-19 all-time record (.626) in conference play, including its first win in the Big 12 against Oklahoma State (Sept. 21, 2024, W, 22-19).
  • Utah is 32-13 in conference play since 2019.
  • The Utes bring 28 conference championships to the Big 12.
  • The Utes won a conference championship three times in their first year in a new conference (1938, 1st in Big Seven; 1948, 1st in Skyline; 1999, tied 1st in Mountain West).

THE NUMBERS

  • Head coach Kyle Whittingham will coach his 375th overall game at Utah and his 249th as a head coach on Saturday.
  • Utah is allowing its opponents just 16.4 points per game this season, which ranks second in the Big 12 and 12th in the FBS.
  • Utah leads the Big 12 and is fifth in the FBS in time of possession (34:07).
  • Utah and Houston will face each other for the first time since 1978.

UTAH FOOTBALL: MUST KNOW

  • Utah’s defense is allowing opponents to convert on just 26.2% of their third down attempts, which ranks first in the Big 12 and fifth in the FBS.
  • The Utes are averaging just 4.43 penalties per game (31 total), good for 11th in the FBS and fifth in the league.
  • Utah leads the Big 12 in first downs defense (98 total, 14.0 per game) and also ranks seventh nationally.
  • The Utes are averaging 13.31 yards per completion in 2024, ranking fourth in the Big 12.
  • The Utes have posted a winning record in 10 consecutive seasons since 2014. Utah has also finished with a winning season in 17 of Whittingham’s 19 years as head coach.
