MSUM announces free tuition program for high-achieving Moorhead Public School graduates

MOORHEAD, Minn. (Valley News Live) – Minnesota State University Moorhead just announced the launch of the Moorhead Scholars program. They say it’s a groundbreaking partnership with Moorhead Area Public Schools that keeps high-performing students in the community by offering MSU Moorhead a full tuition guarantee.

Beginning with the Class of 2025, Moorhead High School graduates with a GPA of 3.0 or higher will be eligible to receive four years of free tuition at MSUM. The program is made possible through a combination of federal, state and institutional grants and scholarships.

“We are proud to partner with Moorhead Area Public Schools to provide this opportunity to Moorhead’s brightest students,” said Dr. Tim Downs, president of MSU Moorhead. “By investing in the next generation of scientists, we are investing in the future of our community.”

Moorhead Scholars is a last-dollar program designed to recognize and reward academic excellence by covering all remaining tuition at MSUM after all available gift aid has been claimed.

To become a Moorhead Scholar, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Graduate of Moorhead High School – ISD 152 (Class of 2025 and later)
  • Achieve a high school GPA of at least 3.0
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by May 1
  • Enroll at MSU Moorhead as a full-time student in the fall following your high school graduation

“This program fits perfectly with our goal of helping students thrive in a changing world,” said Superintendent Brandon Lunak. “We believe in supporting academic achievement and opening doors to higher education here in Moorhead.”

“The Moorhead Scholars program will do more than just support students – it strengthens Moorhead,” said Mayor Shelly Carlson. “The future of our community depends on empowering the next generation, and this program does just that.”

Representatives from both schools say the partnership underscores a shared commitment to retaining local talent in the community.
