Patriot League Football Players of the Week Announced (10/21/24)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Colgate won two of the Patriot League’s four weekly football awards when the league office announced the awards Monday. Holy Cross and Bucknell each received an award.

Colgate junior linebacker Cole Kozlowski was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after recording 13 tackles in the Raiders’ 38-28 win over Georgetown. Raiders junior wide receiver/return specialist Jariyah Sawyer averaged 34.67 yards on three kickoff returns to earn Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Holy Cross sophomore running back Jayden Clerveaux was named Patriot League Football Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight year. He rushed for a career-high 165 yards and two touchdowns in the Crusaders’ 35-34 loss at Harvard.

Bucknell freshman running back Tariq Thomas also earned his second straight Patriot League Football Rookie of the Week, his third of the season. Thomas rushed for 94 yards on nine carries in a loss to Cornell.

Colgate junior running back Marco Maldonado, Georgetown junior wide receiver Jimmy Kibble, senior placekicker/punter Patrick Ryan and sophomore linebacker GianCarlo Rufo, Holy Cross senior safety Jake Jarmolowich and Lafayette junior running back Jamar Curtis and sophomore placekicker Jack Simonetta all received honorable mentions for their Performances performances last week.

The Patriot League Football Players of the Week are selected in a vote by League media representatives and each school’s football athletics communications liaison, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jayden Clerveaux, Holy Cross, So., RB, Everett, Mass./Williston Northampton

*Clerveaux rushed for a career-high 165 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries in Holy Cross’s 35-34 loss at Harvard.
*The sophomore running back scored two straight touchdowns, including a two-yard score, with 1:44 to play in the fourth quarter to give the Crusaders a 28-27 lead.
*The second-year running back surpassed his career high of 159 yards from last week’s game against Fordham and ranks fourth in the league with 537 rushing yards and third in the league with six touchdowns.

PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cole Kozlowski, Colgate, Jr., LB, Spring Lake, NJ/Manasquan

*Kozlowski recorded 13 tackles, including five solo stops, and led Colgate’s defense in a 38-28 win over Georgetown.
*The junior linebacker helped the Raiders hold the Hoyas to 143 rushing yards.
*Recorded his fifth double-digit tackle game of the season and leads the Patriot League with 78 total tackles.

PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jariyah Sawyer, Colgate, Jr., WR/RS, Tampa, Fla./Plant City

*Sawyer returned three kickoffs for 104 yards in Colgate’s 38-28 win over Georgetown.
*The junior return specialist helped the Raiders’ offense start drives at their 40-yard line or better with two kickoff returns of more than 35 yards.
*The junior also caught three passes for 17 yards, including a third-down conversion on a scoring drive in the third quarter.

PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL ROOKIE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tariq Thomas, Bucknell, Miss., RB, Springfield, Mass./Springfield Central

*Thomas rushed for a career-high 94 yards on nine carries in Bucknell’s loss to Cornell, an average of 10.4 yards per carry.
*The freshman running back had a career 47-yard rush in the fourth quarter.
*He has totaled 228 rushing yards in the Bison’s last three games.

HONEST MENTIONS
Marco Maldonado, Colgate, Jr., RB, Chicago, Ill./Loyola Academy (Ill.)

*Maldonado rushed for a career-high 112 yards on 14 carries in Colgate’s 38-28 win over Georgetown to improve to 1-1 in league play. The Chicago native stormed on a 25-yard run in the third quarter to give the Raiders a two-touchdown lead. He became the first Raiders to rush for 100 yards in a game this season.

Jimmy Kibble, Georgetown, Jr., WR, Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County

*Kibble caught five passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns and led the Hoyas’ offense in a 38-28 loss at Colgate on Saturday. The junior wide receiver opened the scoring with an 18-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter and then added a 52-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter to bring GU within seven points.

Patrick Ryan, Georgetown, Sr., P/K, Randolph, NJ/Delbarton

*Ryan punted four times for an average distance of 43.0 yards, including a long punt of 51 yards. The senior also hit on all four PAT attempts in the Hoyas’ loss to Colgate.

GianCarlo Rufo, Georgetown, So., LB, Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School

*Rufo recorded 13 tackles, including 10 solo stops, and led Georgetown’s defense in a 38-28 loss at Colgate on Saturday.

Jake Jarmolowich, Holy Cross, Sr., FS, Summit, NJ/Delbarton

*Jarmolowich recorded a team-high eight tackles, including five solo tackles, in Holy Cross’s 35-34 loss at Harvard. The senior safety made a fourth-down stop in Harvard territory to set up a Crusaders scoring drive.

Jamar Curtis, Lafayette, Jr., RB, Waldorf, Md./St. John’s College

*Curtis rushed for a season-high 156 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries in Lafayette’s 31-17 win over Sacred Heart. The junior running back recorded the 12th 100-yard rushing game of his career and moved to seventh in Lafayette history in career rushing yards (2,534) and rushing touchdowns (24). He also caught five passes for a team-high 42 yards.

Jack Simonetta, Lafayette, So., PK, Gotha, Fla./West Orange

*Simonetta hit on all four PAT attempts and made a 23-yard field goal in the second quarter in Lafayette’s 31-17 win over Sacred Heart.
