Jack White’s year of surprises will bring him to First Avenue for an underplay appearance on Wednesday

After releasing an unannounced record with us in August – his best in years – Jack White will treat Minnesota fans to a surprise concert at First Avenue on Wednesday.

Advance ticket sales for the special Underplay concert begin with just one day’s notice on Tuesday at 1 p.m. and will be sold exclusively via an RSVP system. Buyers must register on fan-direct’s RSVP website Laylo.com. Tickets are $100 each. There is a limit of two per order and they are non-transferable.

This is the first time White has played First Ave since his side band The Dead Weather landed there in 2010. The Detroit rocker’s original band, the White Stripes, performed there in breakout mode in 2001 with their album “White Blood Cells.”

White, 49, has delighted fans in recent months with a few dozen pop-up club appearances like this one at famous rock venues in America and Europe, in keeping with the surprise theme of his new album, “No Name.” The show’s set lists included some of the crisp, rollicking and often nasty-sounding new songs, as well as some White Stripes classics, covers and nuggets from another of White’s bands, the Raconteurs.

“No Name” gained notoriety through unmarked records distributed to buyers at White’s Third Man Records stores in London and Nashville. And that was just the beginning of the fun.

As an indication of how undersized Wednesday’s Underplay performance will be, White has been quick to pack the 8,000-capacity Armory in his last three appearances in Minneapolis, including a Racounteurs performance there in 2019 and a show with his solo band in 2022 sold out, leaving fans exhausted and thrilled.
