The Packers capped the first TD drive with a dynamite throw and catch

GREEN BAY – It would be easy to name the Packers’ final possession of Sunday’s 24-22 win over the Texans the Chevy Drive of the week.

But Green Bay’s first touchdown drive of the game had its own significance statistically.

From the end of the first quarter to the start of the second quarter, the Packers covered 92 yards on 13 plays and needed 6 minutes and 50 seconds to take a 7-3 lead. It was the Packers’ third TD drive of over 90 yards this year, which ties the mark for most in a season under head coach Matt LaFleur (also 2020, 2021). The 13 plays and 6:50 on the clock were also the longest touchdown drives in those categories of the season.

The offense started at its own 8-yard line and was very efficient at the start of the drive, not requiring a third down until it crossed midfield. On the first four plays, three runs by RB Josh Jacobs totaling 20 yards were wrapped around an 11-yard completion to TE Tucker Kraft. QB Jordan Love then hit WR Romeo Doubs for 11 yards for another first down at midfield.

An incompletion followed by a 5-yard pass to Jacobs set up third-and-5 from the Houston 45, and Love found WR Bo Melton for 8 yards. A 4-yard loss to WR Christian Watson put the Packers in a tough spot, but on a 6-yard reception in the second, WR Jayden Reed was picked up and slammed to the ground by Texas LB Neville Hewitt, resulting in a 15th draw -yard penalty.

That made it the first down at the 20, and after a 1-yard run by Jacobs and a 5-yard completion to WR Dontayvion Wicks, Love fired a pass over the middle on third-and-4 that Kraft dove for one 14 rushing-yard TD. It was a terribly close throw, a really impressive catch, and the Packers were on the field.
