The FDNY welcomed the public to its EMS stations and firehouses over the weekend of October 19-20 as part of the department’s citywide open house program.

More than 200 rescue stations and fire stations across the five boroughs of New York City opened their doors. The public had the opportunity to tour the facilities and view the various equipment, including ambulances and fire engines. Members also educated the public about fire and life safety, conducted demonstrations, and discussed career opportunities with the FDNY.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our firefighters, EMTs and paramedics,” said FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker. “It’s always amazing to see firsthand how they interact with the community and inspire future first responders. The FDNY is a big part of the neighborhoods it serves and it was great to see our members interacting with the public.”

As part of the Open House program, the FDNY also gave away smoke detectors, educational materials and FDNY helmets to children.

All FDNY units remained deployed throughout the weekend to respond to fires and medical emergencies.
