US launches investigation into leaking Israel’s plans to attack Iran ━ The European Conservative

Over the weekend, highly classified American intelligence documents were leaked about Israel’s retaliatory plans against Iran after it fired a volley of missiles at Israeli cities on October 1. An investigation is currently underway.

The documents, classified top secret, were circulated online after being posted on Telegram by an account purportedly based in Tehran called the Middle East Spectator. They are attributed to the US National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency and say that Israel was still moving military assets in preparation for a military strike against Iran.

House Speaker Mike Johnson called the unauthorized release “very concerning,” adding that “there are some serious allegations being made.”

The Washington Post notes that it is not yet clear whether this was an “intentional leak by a member of the U.S. intelligence community or another method, such as a hacker attack.” Both eventualities have serious consequences for leading American authorities.

There are also concerns about the possibility of additional documents containing more sensitive information being leaked.

Shortly after the documents were leaked, Iran’s proxy Hezbollah attempted to assassinate Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by bombing his home with a drone. Netanyahu called the attack “a grave mistake,” adding:

This will not stop me or the State of Israel from continuing our just war against our enemies to secure our future. …Anyone who attempts to harm the citizens of Israel will pay a heavy price.

The Pentagon says it is investigating the leak reports.
