Masahiro Sakurai encourages fans to watch his latest YouTube video, which will be 40 minutes long

It sounds like an opportunity to share a message directly with fans.

Earlier this month, legendary game developer and YouTuber Masahiro Sakurai announced the time and date of his final YouTube video. Now he’s shared a memory with some interesting new details.

As NintendoLife reports, he shared this message:

“Look forward to Masahiro Sakurai’s YouTube Premiere special finale on Creating Games next Tuesday, October 22nd at 8:00 PM Japan time! (11:00 GMT) Duration is just over 40 minutes.

It might be a little difficult for my international viewers to tune in at this time, but everyone is welcome. And for those who can’t make it, it will also be available to watch on my channel afterwards. I hope to see you there!”

Since starting his YouTube channel, Sakurai has been making videos providing insights into the world of game development – from the perspective of someone who has been making games for decades and has risen from a talented programmer to one of the top game developers in the rankings the industry.

However, Sakurai also deliberately kept these videos short and simple. Often only one or two ideas are explained in a single video, and often they last no longer than ten minutes. Many videos only last five minutes or less.

Sakurai explained that he deliberately simplified his videos and also significantly limited the scope of his channel. He didn’t plan on offering an entire game development course for free on YouTube.

Rather, Sakurai wanted to increase players’ understanding of game development and the industry in general. Although these videos take a significantly different form than his late boss’s Iwata Asks interviews, they essentially had the same end goal in mind.

Why does Sakurai make his final video a forty-minute presentation? It definitely sounds like this is about more than just sharing a lesson on his YouTube channel.

In fact, this length is similar to that of a video game marketing presentation, very similar to a Nintendo Direct. Now we have to be clear that although Sakurai develops games for Nintendo, he is not actually a Nintendo employee.

Still, it’s not out of the question that Sakurai will make a Nintendo-related announcement, as a particular Nintendo game is the focus of his channel and career.

Sakurai has been making this for 19 years Super Smash Bros. Play with an almost religious devotion. Part of this is an oversight on Sakurai and Nintendo’s part, as they didn’t properly plan to prepare a sequel Super Smash Bros. Play after him.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate itself appeared six years ago, and that would have been enough to make a new one Super Smash Bros. Game. Maybe Sakurai has done something new, maybe not, or is starting to do something new Super Smash Bros. game, but he could make an announcement to that effect.

Either Sakurai reveals that he is working on the next one again Super Smash Bros. game, or he could announce the new team that did it without him. If you can believe it, Sakurai’s YouTube video could also have something to do with the Switch 2 announcement.

It may not be possible to announce the next one Super Smash Bros. Game without the Switch 2, and that would be the reason why Nintendo will announce the Switch 2 soon. Maybe Sakurai even has the green light to give a sneak peek of the new console.

We don’t know that Sakurai will be making a Mark Cerny-like announcement for the Switch 2 as he’s not the right person for the job. However, we can’t help but bring this all up too, as the timing is just right for all of this to happen at the same time. But we’ll see how this week turns out.
