Driver arrested for OVI and open container – Peak of Ohio

On Sunday, 61-year-old David Taylor of Raymond was arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired after he was stopped by officers for driving a red Pontiac with no visible license plate.

While on patrol, Logan County Sheriff’s Deputies noticed the vehicle traveling erratically on State Route 235.

They initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Bentz Avenue and State Street in Lakeview.

Officers noticed a can of Smirnoff Smash on the ground and smelled alcohol in the vehicle.

Tyler admitted to drinking a beer about an hour before the stop.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found six open containers of alcohol and a digital scale with white, powdery residue on it.

Tyler was handcuffed and given his Miranda rights.

He initially denied taking drugs, but mentioned previous cocaine use, which raised further suspicion.

Tyler refused to take a field sobriety test and was arrested for OVI.

He was taken to Bellefontaine police for a breathalyzer test, which he also refused.

Tyler received citations for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, refusing to submit to a physical, and failing to display a license plate.

He was also cited for the open container and drug paraphernalia and then released to a sober driver.
